Ruby Rails on fresh Ubuntu 10.04 Install

Building a Rails application from scratch on Ubuntu 10.04

already installed ruby, via apt-get, and have mysql running,

Trying to get mysql running now.


sudo apt-get install ruby
sudo-apt-get install rubygems
sudo gem install rails
sudo gem install haml

sudo apt-get install build-essential -yf
sudo apt-get install libmysqlclient15-dev mysql-client mysql-common
sudo apt-get install libmysql++-dev
sudo apt-get install ruby1.8-dev
sudo gem install mysql -- --with-mysql-config=/usr/bin/mysql_config
mkdir sources; cd sources
rails depot; cd depot
* edit config/database.yml
* edit config/environment.rb, add config.gem 'haml'

Ruby talking to SQL Server on Unix / Mac

Posted my HOW-To on connecting Ruby to SQL Server for Unix.

Last I checked it didn’t work with Mac 10.5, but otherwise seems to work fine.
